The Sanofi Espoir Foundation allocates one million euros to the fight against COVID-19

  • Mobilization of an exceptional emergency fund
  • Flexibility towards its partners
  • Actions in France and abroad in favor of the most vulnerable sections of the population
  • A positive impact for more than 50,000 beneficiaries

The Sanofi Espoir Foundation has announced an allocation of one million euros to the fight against COVID-19. In response to the current coronavirus pandemic, the Foundation is creating an exceptional emergency fund, and authorizing its partners to redirect initially-awarded grants to actions in response to COVID-19, thereby enabling the protection of people in highly vulnerable situations. These actions carried out by its partners in France and internationally should benefit more than 50,000 people, including professionals, volunteers and beneficiaries.

"Due to this unprecedented health crisis, the most fragile sections of the population are even more vulnerable than ever, and their situation requires the continuation of our actions in the field," says Valérie Faillat, Head of the Sanofi Espoir Foundation.

"By devoting one million euros to the fight against COVID-19 to aid people in extreme poverty, the Sanofi Espoir Foundation remains faithful to its mission of reducing health inequalities. For example, in Mayotte, we are working with Horizon to provide access via prepaid cards to water for hand-washing, a key protective measure against the pandemic," adds Valérie Faillat.

In France, the Foundation has focused its support on addressing four major challenges.

  • Firstly, this involves meeting the basic needs of the most vulnerable, an issue that has now become critical following the measures introduced to combat COVID-19. The Sanofi Espoir Foundation is for example supporting the platform, which lists all the basic-necessity facilities in France that are still open to the public.
  • The next step is to raise general awareness, including among those who have the most difficulty in accessing information, especially because of language issues, both in mainland France and in the overseas territories. To meet this challenge, the Sanofi Espoir Foundation is supporting organizations such as ID Santé, which broadcasts messages to non-French-speaking populations in French Guiana, and Millennia 2025, for the launch of an "EpidemiXs" section on its Universal Doctor application.
  • The third challenge is to implement protective measures, such as compliance with confinement through sheltering (hotel nights for example for the beneficiaries of Ikambere in Seine-Saint-Denis and Habitat et Humanisme), and hygiene measures requiring access to water with Première Urgence Internationale in the shantytowns in metropolitan France, and with Horizon for the populations of Mayotte.
  • Lastly, in this context of people living in increasingly fragile situations, the Foundation supports Intermed and Apprentis d'Auteuil, who work notably in the fields of addictology and mental health.

On an international scale, the Foundation is committed to defending the principle of international solidarity and working closely with the authorities. It is stepping up its assistance to countries in which it is already particularly active, such as Senegal, alongside its partners Artemedis in promoting protective measures and ALIMA to boost its capacity to respond to COVID-19.

About the Sanofi Espoir Corporate Foundation

Created in 2010, the Sanofi Espoir Corporate Foundation aims to reduce inequalities in health in France and internationally. Its actions aim to improve the health of the most vulnerable populations, particularly children. These serve the Foundation’s vision of a world in which everyone has a chance to be born, grow and maintain their health. This ambition covers four strategic areas: maternal and neonatal health, pediatric cancers in low- and middle-income countries, access to healthcare for the most vulnerable populations in France, and responding to humanitarian crises.
