On Saturday, November 14, the graduation ceremony for the Interuniversity pediatric cancer course was held in in Marrakech, resulting from a partnership between the Mohammed V University in Rabat and Paris Sud University.
Through this partnership, the first pediatric oncology university degree course was set up in Morocco, with the aim of training doctors and developing the discipline throughout the African continent. This innovative program is focused on improving care for childhood cancer in Africa; in some countries, there is still no pediatric oncology education.
The 26 students in the first graduation class, coming from different countries in Africa (Burundi, Congo-Brazzaville, Gabon, Mali, Marrocco, Mauriania, Niger, RCA, Togo, Tunisia), have now received their degrees, and training sessions for the second class have already started. The theses defended by the various graduation classes will also help to improve research in the field of pediatric oncology.
